How to play...
- First of all, read the comic story through with the students, check understanding and practice.
- Next, use the flash cards to practice the target language you want to use in the card game.
In this example we will practice the form;
Student A: How long have you wanted a car?
Student B: For 2 years. / I don't want a car.
The negative answer 'I don't want a car' is not on the worksheets, but students are assumed to understand this sentence at this level. Practice and review it before the game begins. - Make groups of up to 4 students.
- Give each group one pack of cards (made from the Game Cards printed sheet.)
- The basic aim of the game is to collect 1 of each 6 different cards from the pack.
- The first student takes the top card from the pack and asks the student to the left of them the question corresponding to the card. ie. If it is a picture of Bob playing the guitar, then they ask the question, "How long have you played the guitar?".
- The second page of the students worksheet has 6 different possible answers.
- The student answers according to 1 of the spaces on the worksheet, ie. "For a long time." receives the card and places it face up on the corresponding space on their worksheet.
- The game continues to the left.
- If a student is asked a question about a card they have already collected, then they give the corresponding negative response, ie. "I don't play the guitar." and the card is returned to the bottom of the pack.
- The winner is the first student to have collected all 6 cards and of course to have consequently responded using all 6 possible answers.
- Any, or for advanced students all, of the target language in the Tool Box on page 2 of the worksheets can be used in this game.
