Preparation - Stage 1
- Read the comic through with the students and check understanding.
- Hand out the worksheet and use the flashcards to practice the target language.
- In the first instance, the target language is...
A: What's wrong?
B: I have a headache. etc. - Play stage 1 of the game.
Game - stage 1
- Give each student 1 sickness game card each.
- Tell them they are not allowed to show anyone else the card.
- Tell students to walk around the room, meet other students and use the conversation above to find someone with the same sickness card.
- When they have both found a match, they both go to the teacher together. The teacher then practices the short conversation again with each student to make sure they understand, and the students sit down.
Preparation - Stage 2
- Practice the next part of the conversation.
- A: When did it start?
B: This morning. etc. - Play stage 2 of the game.
Game - stage 2
- Give each student one sickness game card , and one time game card each.
- Once again, they are not allowed to show anyone else the cards.
- This time the students must use the conversations from both stages to find someone with the same time card. Make sure they understand they are not allowed to skip stage 1 of the conversation.
- When they have both found a match, they both go to the teacher together. The teacher then practices the short conversation again with each student to make sure they understand, and the students sit down.
Preparation - Stage 3
- Practice the next part of the conversation.
- A: Here, take this medicine.
- Play stage 3 of the game.
Game - Stage 3
- Give half of the class two sickness game cards , and two time game cards each. These students are the sick people.
- Give the other half of the class two medicine game cards each. These students are the doctors.
- The students walk around the room and must use all 3 stages of the conversation.
- At the end of the conversation, they exchange cards.
- At the end of two conversations with two different students, they have exchanged all their cards and their roles reverse.
- Students continue to play until the teacher decides to stop.
