| Advantages | The students can enjoy reading the comic which will help them remember how to use the grammar. This lesson also includes some writing exercise on a worksheet which combines images to facilitate learning. |
| Disadvantages | This grammar is very difficult for non-native speakers to learn. Further activities and review in the future will most likely be necessary. The speaking activity in this lesson is only about 10-15 minutes. |
This lesson is basically a repeat of the previous lesson, Unit 1 Lesson 2, but this time covering inanimate objects.
Comic
- You can read the comic with the students at the start or the end of the lesson. If it's the first lesson for simple past tense, then the end of the lesson is probably better.
- Read through, check understanding, translate if necessary and read through together again.
Worksheet
- Introduce/review the main grammar points using the examples on the grammar summary worksheet.
- Review location of objects using the game worksheet.
- Handout the writing worksheet and set writing task.
- Review and check by reading through when everyone is finished.
Game
- An information gap game
- Students make pairs and sit opposite each other with their desks
- Students play rock paper scissors.
- The winner hides their game sheet with a book and sets the word cards around the car.
- The loser uses the target language to find out where all the words are and places their cards in the corresponding positions.
- When they are finished they check to see if it is correct and swap roles.
- If you like you can choose a pair of students randomly at the end of the class to do a demonstration. Give them a reward, like a sticker, as most students above the age of about 13 don't like speaking in front of whole class.
