| Time | With a class of 20-30 it takes two 50 minute lessons. |
| Advantages | The students have the opportunity to give a short presentation about themselves. |
| Disadvantages | Because the students have to write their own speech, within the structure of the worksheet, it can take a long time. If you have two lessons spare, then go for it. If you don't have much time or think the level of your class is a bit low for this activity, then I recommended using the format as described in the Beginner Lesson for this topic. |
Lesson 1 - Preparing for the Speech
- Model an example speech.
- Check understanding of the key sentences the students will use.
- Hand out the worksheet.
- Help students to write their speeches.
- NOTE: The students don't need to use all the example structures given in the worksheet.
Lesson 2 - Speech Presentation
- Students practice individually for 5 minutes.
- Students make pairs and present their speeches to each other.
- Students make groups of 4 or 5 and decide order.
- Student number 1 from each group gives their speech in front of their group.
- Student 1 from each group then rotates to another group and gives their speech again.
- Students rotate one more time and sit down in their original seats.
- Student 2 stands up from each group and repeats the same process, then student 3 etc.
Tips
- Practicing memorization is very important in language learning. Encourage your students to try and memorize their speeches as the lesson progresses.
