Game Preparation
- Practice the language by reading the short comic with the class together. Make sure they understand the meaning and the main grammar points and read it together again.
- Get students to fill in the worksheet. Check they have done it correctly and help those that need help.
- Practice speaking the new language.
- Note: This is a beginner lesson, the worksheet and card game only address the answer structures, "It's an...", and "It's a...". The comic has more varied answer structures which can be discussed briefly with lower level students and practiced and further incorporated into the lesson with higher level students.
Game - Guess the Card !
- Students make pairs and sit at a table opposite each other.
- Each student takes 3 cards. The remaining cards are placed face down in the middle of the table.
- Student 1 turns his/her cards face up.
- Student 1 then points to each card consecutively and ask the target language question, "What's this?"
- Student 2 answers.
- Student 1 then turns his/her cards face down and mixes them up on the table.
- Student 1 then points to 1 of the cards and ask the question again, "What's this?"
- Student 2 has to try and guess what the card is.
- If student 2 guesses incorrectly then it becomes student 1's turn to guess and the game continues.
- If student 2 guesses correctly then he/she keeps the card.
- Student 1 then takes another card from the pack in the middle.
- Now it is student 1's turn to guess and the game continues.
